Residents of Galena Forest Estates enjoy miles of hiking and bike trails, including White's Creek and Brown's Creek trail heads. Galena Creek runs through the community and residents enjoy mountain living. Bordering Toiyabe National Forest, there is plenty of outdoor recreation. In the summer, hiking trails are enjoyed by many. In the winter, try cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the gorgeous Galena Creek Regional Park. Several educational programs are offered for both elementary aged students and high school students. This recreation area is a gem for the local community. Galena Creek Recreation Area is located off of Mt. Rose Highway and the Visitor Center is in the first parking lot.
Schools serving the Galena Forest Estates community are Hunsberger Elementary School, Pine Middle School, and Galena High School. The HOA serves a portion of the community by enforcing the regulations included in the CC&Rs and the owner of each lot within Galena Forest Estates is allotted one vote for the election of the Board of Directors. Galena Forest Estates is convenient to the Reno area and has two entrances/exits from Mt. Rose Highway. Summit Mall is about five minutes away and features high-end retail, including Dillards, several restaurants and a movie theater. The farmers market runs in the parking at Summit Mall twice a week during the summer. Lake Tahoe is only a 30 minute drive up Mt. Rose Highway and skiing in the winter is only about a 15 minute drive to Slide Mountain and Mt. Rose Ski Resort.
