In a recent article from Builder, Bruce D. Snider delves into what master planned communities of the future will look like. In a word: connectivity. People are choosing to connect more with their neighbors, their neighborhood, their families and their communities.

Somersett back yardConnected master planned communities have greater walkability by the way of walking/jogging paths and walkable or bikeable access to work, shopping, and schools.

As Baby Boomers become grandparents, fewer are choosing massive, age-qualified communities. Many are choosing to live closer to their families and in communities where they can be a part of a multigenerational experience. Millenials are more likely to choose homes with entertaining space- large outdoor patios, great rooms, and indoor-outdoor spaces.

Community gardens, wildlife habitat, and open spaces such as meadows or orchards are replacing “town squares”. Planned communities are becoming more centered around building community and residents sharing in experience than in a prestigious address.
