Is your spare bedroom just collecting stuff? Have the kids moved out? Or maybe the office you'd planned on when you bought the home never materialized. Have you actually ever used your formal dining room?

If you have a spare room that you just aren't using to its full potential, there are several great ways to make the most of the extra space.

Cocktail Lounge- A dining room space that isn't used often, can become a fun cocktail lounge in your own home. A bar setup, comfortable seating, and lighting can turn even the most formal of dining rooms into a chic cocktail lounge.

Reading Nook- Perhaps you have a large, unused closet or a corner of a room that can be re-purposed to a reading nook. A comfy chair, bookcase, side table, and good lighting are all you need to get started.

Home Theater- Enjoy taking in a good movie? Several comfortable recliners, a mini fridge and snack bar will add a fun and convenient element to movie night.

Dressing Room- Do you love the idea of an enormous walk-in closet? Extra shelving, lighting, and even a comfortable chair can turn a spare bedroom into a dressing room.

Meditation Room- A spare bedroom can become an excellent area to relax, meditate, and practice mindfulness. Add live plants, candles, cushions or floor pillows, and an indoor water feature for a calming atmosphere.

Guest Retreat- If you have regular guests, it's worth investing the time and money into a dedicated guest bedroom. Quality sheets, blackout curtains, a bedside table with a lamp and accessible outlets can make your guests' stay comfortable. Make sure necessities like towels, soap, and toiletries are easily accessible in the bathroom.

Music Room- Are you a musical family? Combine all the instruments to one room, add a comfortable chair or two and space for music stands for an organized place for everyone to practice their music.
