Spring may bring new beginnings, but winter is the perfect time to tackle some home updates. If you're planning to sell your home this year, making these seven home updates may increase your property value and may help sell your home faster.

1. Improve Curb Appeal- Trimming trees and shaping hedges should be done in the winter while the plants are dormant. Consider adding or replacing mulch now to give your yard a fresh look.

2. Replace or Upgrade Doors- Are your doors looking a little shabby? Replacing or painting your front door can make a huge difference on a potential buyer's first impression of your home. Interior doors can be painted and new door hardware can make them look brand new.

3. Add a Back Splash- There are so many back splash ideas that are very simple to install. If you don't feel comfortable installing tile, consider a peel and stick back splash in natural stone or metal.

4. Update Faucets- Replacing a faucet is typically a fairly simple task and can make a big impact in the look of your bathroom or kitchen. Make sure you purchase a faucet that is similar in size and style (center set, widespread 2-handle, or single hole) for the easiest installation of the new faucet.

5. Organize the Garage- Some basic shelving can make all the difference in the look and usability of the garage. Add a mounted broom and mop holder to get your cleaning tools off the ground and get a head start on your spring cleaning by donating or throwing out unused items.

6. Professionally Deep Clean Your Carpet- Carpets tend to dry faster in the winter because of the warm, dry interior air being circulated, so a winter deep cleaning may be the most convenient. Not only will your carpet look better, but a clean carpet can decrease allergens in your home.

7. Install or Replace Outdoor Lighting- With the shorter days of winter, you may have realized how dark the exterior of your home is. Fix that by installing a new outdoor light or replacing the dated one already there. Choose a light that is energy efficient or even a light with a dusk to dawn sensor so you can set it and forget it.
