Home. It has never been so important. And, the strong demand for housing in the Reno/Sparks region is proving this statement true.

“Median” means “in the middle”, so half of homes sold for more and half sold for less. According to the Reno-Sparks Association of REALTORS, the regional median price increased from $432,320 to $439,750 from July to August. Our year-over-year median price is up by 10% and we expect the median price in the coming months to continue trending up at a manageable pace.

The Average Days on Market stayed fairly steady, decreasing slightly from 76 days to 75 days from July to August. Naturally, we experience a decrease in the number of days to sell a home this time of year. This is great for sellers, but represents…

Light, Porch, Welcome, Light On, Porch Light, HomeSome of the easiest fall home maintenance projects can end up saving you a lot in the long run. So as the weather turns cooler, it's time to start thinking about how you can protect your home this winter and prevent problems in the future.

1. Turn Off Irrigation for the Season. In Northern Nevada, most lawns tend to go dormant over winter. Make sure your irrigation system is turned off and water is drained from the lines so the lines don't burst with the first hard freeze. If you're not comfortable tackling this yourself, reach out to a lawn service provider for help.

2. Seal Drafts. Caulk, seal, and weatherstrip around your windows and doors. To see if you have drafts, hold a lit candle or stick of incense around the perimeter of your doors and…

The fires raging in California have been causing poor air quality in Northern Nevada. If you or a family member suffers from respiratory issues, or you're just tired of the smoky air, consider these tips to improve the air quality in your home: Colorado, Landscape, Forest, Mountains, Trees, Smoke

For the Home

Vacuum Regularly. Pet dander and dust will hold on to smells. Vacuum every few days (or more) in carpeted areas.

Control Dust. With all the smoke in the air, you may notice more dust in your home. Being extra vigilant in dusting and cleaning can help you breath a little easier at home.

Air Out Your Home When Conditions Allow. When the smoke clears, even for a morning, take that time to air out your home by opening windows and letting air circulate.

Run the HVAC System. If your HVAC…

Typically, late spring and summer are the hottest home selling seasons. But this has been a strange year and the market is still going strong in the Reno-Sparks area. If you're planning to sell your home this fall might be the best time all year to put your home on the market. Here are some tips to consider before you list:

Get Picture Perfect. If you will be selling this fall, consider having professional pictures taken now, while your lawn and landscape is still thriving. Your real estate agent will be able to set up professional photos that work around your schedule.

Improve Fall Curb Appeal. Consider planting fall flowers like chrysanthemums in pots near the front door. If you decorate, choose tasteful, seasonal decor instead of…

On many a day on the Truckee River in Reno, fly fishing is a commonly seen sight. The sun glinting off the ripples of the cool alpine water. The fisherman standing in waist-high water, waiting patiently for a bite.

For Patrick Sheehan, marketing director for Dickson Commercial Group and an avid fly fisherman, it’s the challenge, the solitude and the peace that keeps him coming back.

“I just love the meditative peace of it,” Sheehan said. “They call it the flow state. When you’re fishing, all the chatter that you’re usually thinking kind of can disappear because you’re so focused on what you’re doing.”

Many others are joining Sheehan and finding the joy in fly fishing. The Nevada Department of Wildlife has seen an uptick in people buying fishing…
