Update from TMWA: "Our region is experiencing one of the best starts to a water year in recent history. Precipitation since the beginning of October is well in excess of 200% in both the Truckee and Tahoe basins.
The snowpack is also about double what it normally is for this time of year. January has been one of the top five months for precipitation on record. The wet-weather pattern has also provided a big shot in the arm for Tahoe, with the lake’s level rising 1.4 feet just since the first of January— and over two feet since the beginning of the water year on October 1.
It is estimated that the lake will be 4.2 feet above the rim by June, which is about two-thirds of its massive storage capacity. This is an extremely-favorable outcome, allowing us to confidently predict that Tahoe will be able to support normal river flows at least through 2018, making it unnecessary to tap into our record-high levels of upstream drought reserves. It is also expected that all reservoirs in the system will fill this year. If you would like to check the current status of our upstream reserves, please visit the new Upstream Reserves Tracker at tmwa.com/reserves."
