Every Monday from Jan. 7 through Feb. 11, the Wilbur D. May Center at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park will host an education session to teach 4-6-year-olds about nature in the winter. Each session will feature a short lesson, a story, an indoor activity, and a guided outdoor exploration. Each session runs from 10–11 a.m. and will meet in the Ranch House. Cost is $5 donation per session, or $30 for the full series, cash or checks only. Parent attendance is required.

January Events in Reno/Sparks: 35th Annual Bobby Dolan Baseball Dinner

Former San Francisco Giants pitcher and Douglas High School legend Shawn Estes will be the featured speaker at the 35th annual Bobby Dolan Baseball Dinner, the yearly fundraising event for Nevada baseball. Estes had his best season in the majors in 1997, going 19-5 with a 3.18 ERA for the Giants and was selected to the National League All-Star team. In 2000, he became the first Giants pitcher since 1949 to hit a grand slam and recorded four home runs in his career. With his playing career wrapped up, Estes now co-hosts the Giants postgame show on NBC Sports Bay Area and has done color commentary for the Reno Aces minor league team. In 2010, Estes was honored with a plaque on the Giants Wall of Fame.

Two worlds collide in this breathtaking and exquisite musical, based on the 2015 Tony Award-winning Lincoln Center Theater production of “The King and I.” One of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s finest works, “The King And I” boasts a score that features beloved classics such as “Getting To Know You,” “I Whistle a Happy Tune,” “Hello Young Lovers,” “Shall We Dance” and “Something Wonderful.” Set in 1860’s Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children.

The second, annual ALLIANCE event, organized by the Reno + Sparks Chamber of Commerce, EDAWN, RSCVA, and the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority will bring together more than 700 businesses and organizations for a morning of education and networking. Sponsored by the Nevada Mining Association, Universit of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, Clark & Associates, the Atlantis Hotel, this event includes presentations from some of the area’s economic leaders, a tradeshow, lunch, and more.

Enjoy an all-you-can-responsibly-drink evening of beer and music at the annual Brew HaHa, which will feature more than 100 brews from local, regional and national breweries. Attendees can also listen to live music by Left of Centre, the official house band at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill in Las Vegas. This annual event raises funds for the Sierra Arts Foundation, which provides support for area artists and community arts programs.
