Check Out These Online and Live June Things To Do In Reno And Sparks

While some of Northern Nevada’s favorite large events are on pause for 2020 due to the Coronavirus, there are still many fun June things to do in Reno and Sparks. From small art classes to a restaurant week to welcome back eateries to online fun runs and festivals, event organizers are getting creative! Check out this list of June things to do from local organizations.

Renown Health Foundation Virtual Town Hall

  • When: Monday, June 1, 2020, and Monday, June 8, 2020

Renown Health President & CEO, Dr. Tony Slonim, will share the latest information on COVID-19 and other important Renown projects during this Renown Health Foundation Virtual Town Hall. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions. There are two separate events scheduled for 6 -7 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2020, and Monday, June 8, 2020. Click here for the June 1 event, and here for the June 8 event. Virtual Educator Evenings

Educator Evenings are a free professional development series on the first Wednesday of every month offering state-approved professional development hours for participation. Artist Kal Spelletich on Art, Robotics, Technology and Empowering Humanity

Join the Nevada Museum of Art as Bay Area artist, Kal Spelletich, discusses his work and process. Spelletich’s work is included in the exhibition “Where Art and Tech Collide” through June 21. He has been a pivotal figure in the machine art and robotics community. He frequently collaborates with scientists, engineers, musicians, and audiences to realize projects. His machines address the poetic nature of technology, scientific discovery and metaphorically illustrate how, just as movement, light and sound waves can be sent into the world, so also can ideas and emotions radiate out, with the potential for activating positive change. Spelletich’s work raises open-ended questions about the dominant economic producers of technology, the interplay of technology and spirituality, the role of the collective in capitalism, and economic and educational privilege. His work is generated from the belief that ultimately humanity prevails over technology.


2020 Northern Nevada CycleNation

Are you ready to move more for a great cause? The American Heart Association is raising awareness about the prevalence of stroke and how to prevent it. Its third annual CycleNation will be a virtual event to follow the COVID-19 guidance of the CDC, state, and local health officials. The event will include a robust array of activities, and anyone can participate from a remote location.


Reno Restaurant Week

  • When: Sunday, June 7, 2020–Wednesday, June 24, 2020

During this week-long event, participating food and drink establishments will offer reduced or fixed price menus and/or specialty items to guests. The event will support and celebrate the food and drink community and encourage locals and visitors to try new eateries. All of the net proceeds of Hungry in Reno’s Restaurant Week will be split equally between the three Hungry Gives Back recipients: Reno Ice, STEP2, and Veterans Guest House.


Virtual Art Afternoon Workshop and Social for Seniors

Join the Nevada Museum of Art as Art Afternoon for Seniors goes virtual! Instructor Carol Raphel will share perspectives on several works from the Museum’s collections and will facilitate a lively group discussion and virtual workshop. Participants will need to have Zoom and will need to be able to use their camera function on Zoom. This project will require simple supplies. A supply list will be posted at least one week in advance of the program. Please register by Wednesday, June 10. A Zoom link will be sent by email to registrants on Thursday, June 11, along with the images that will be referenced.


Make It Pretty Truckee River Cleanup

Beer needs water, and now water needs us. Odell Brewing and Trout Unlimited California are joining forces to clean up Lady Bird Lake. Help clear trash along the shoreline and enjoy a free pint afterward to celebrate the hard work. Please register for the event beforehand, as spots are limited.


Hands ON! at Home

Estelle J. Kelsey Foundation Hands ON! Second Saturdays have shifted to #HandsONatHome while the Museum is closed. Join the Nevada Museum of Art as it brings its monthly gallery-based program outside the walls of the Museum and into your home. Families are invited to engage in simple art practices using basic art supplies and household objects.

 


Art Investigators Virtual

“Hands ON! at Home” brings the Nevada Museum of Art’s “Art Investigators” program to homes in Northern Nevada and beyond! Following an interactive discussion, participants will be encouraged to create their own inspired masterpiece to share.

Take a Bite Out of Wellness

Grab your lunch and join Hometown Health and with Michael Roth, Plant Doctor and certified arborist from Moana Nursery. Michael will present information and guidelines on how to start and maintain a healthy fruit and vegetable garden in the northern Nevada climate. Michael will discuss the best types of fruits and vegetables to plant, when and where to plant your garden, how to plant in containers and in-ground, as well as nutrient additives and pest control recommendations.

Bowers Mansion Firecracker Virtual Run

Bowers Mansion Firecracker Run may not happen live in 2020, but the community is invited to take advantage of the new virtual run.  Run your distance on your own and anywhere you desire. Register for either the 5K, 10K or Half Marathon. Runners’ results will be posted once each participant submits their times. Everyone receives a finisher medal, which will be mailed to them after July 5th.
