Choosing a Realtor is a big decision. Before you hire an agent to help you purchase a home or sell your current home, there are several questions to ask. No matter what, you need to feel comfortable that the agent you choose has your best interests at heart and you feel comfortable working with them.

The following questions are a good starting place when you interview agents.

General Questions

  • Will I be working with you? Or someone on your team?
  • How will we communicate?  (Are you comfortable texting if that is this agent's preferred method of contact?)
  • What is your experience? Do you have special credentials?
  • Do you represent both buyers and sellers?
  • What is your average number of clients?
  • Do you have references?
  • Do

Reno, Nevada: Best Low-Key Hideout. That's not only my opinion, but the published opinion of Outside Online. In an article featured this week, Reno was listed as one of the 25 best towns of 2017. Pretty impressive. But we knew that.

After covering the basic statistics of our fair city, the article continues with all of the outdoor amenities nearby, including the world's tallest climbing wall at Whitney Park Hotel, mountain biking and kayaking opportunities. There was a shout out to the Mid-Town neighborhood, a few excellent restaurants and Reno's economy, specifically Tesla's Gigafactory.

According to the Reno Sparks Association of Realtors, the Median Sold Price for single family homes and condos in the Reno/Sparks area increased by 3.9% from April to May to $319,000. When we compare this price to a year ago, we see a 9.6% increase, validating the continued strong demand for real estate in the Reno Sparks region. While the year over year increases are having an impact on affordability, it is important to note these increases are being fueled by sustainable economic growth and new jobs. With summer nearly upon us, additional new home construction should begin appearing on the market over the next few months to help meet some of the demand. If you are thinking of selling, now may be the time.

The number of homes sold jumped by over 23%

You may be looking for ways to spruce up your home before you list it this summer. Remember that buyers want to see themselves in your home and the touches that make a house your home may not let them do that as easily. If your decorating style over powers a room, potentially interested buyers may pass.

Before you turn to Pinterest or binge watch your favorite HGTV show looking for the best ideas for your space consider these tips on design trends you may want to avoid when selling your home.

  • Bold Paint Choices. You love your purple dining room and your daughter's hot pink bedroom. We understand, but potential home buyers may not be so forgiving. Some buyers are looking for a move in-ready home and your bold paint choices make it more

Here's the latest news about the Reno-Sparks real estate market from the experts at Dickson Realty.

Market activity in the Reno/Sparks area for Single Family homes in May is heating up along with the weather. This is typical for the late spring and early summer months. Let’s take a look at the details.

There were 2,037 homes available at the end of May. This is a 2.8% increase in available inventory when compared to April, and a 20.6% increase from January’s inventory. Although this increase is heading in the right direction, our inventory is down by over 12% compared to this time last year. It is important to note that these statistics include homes that are active and available for purchase, as well as homes that are in contract but not yet

Reno Living RoomWe seem to all have them. That super small hall bathroom or the tiny nook you call an office. Especially when you're selling your home, you want it to look as spacious as possible. Try these tips to make your small space look larger.

1. Use Minimal Patterns. Don't overwhelm a small room with too many patterns. If you love a bold pattern, choose a focal piece, like an accent chair or a sofa and choose more neutral colors for the other furniture.

2. Don't Forget the Doors. The backs of doors can be excellent "hidden" storage space. Whether you add hooks for a bedroom door or small baskets for a bathroom door, there is a lot of typically unused space available.

3.Maximize the Foyer. If you have a foyer, maximize every inch of it. A small desk, if

Backyard kitchenSummertime can be a great time to sell your home. But there are also some challenges. People may be out of town on vacations. Kids are  out of school, and parents may be focused on their activities. Before you list your home with a reputable Realtor, make sure your home looks it best with these tips.

1. Use the Power Washer. From retaining walls to the driveway, give your home a good scrubbing to make it look it's best. If you don't own a power washer, there are several companies in Reno and Sparks that can do this for you.4

2. Clean the Windows. After the wet winter we had, your windows may have a grimy build up. This makes the house look like it isn't quite clean plus it doesn't allow as much light through as clean windows. Make sure your home is

Local housing inventory and affordability continue to be topics of conversation in the real estate industry, both nationally and locally. Let’s take a look at what’s happening in the Reno-Sparks market area.

As of May 30th, inventory of homes that are Active and Available is unchanged from the beginning of May, up 4.9% from the beginning of April, but down 16.8% from this time last year. The total number of homes active and available is 1,031. Sixty-nine percent, or 711 of those homes, have asking prices under $600,000.

Now, let’s talk about absorption rate by price range. The Absorption Rate, or Days of Available Inventory, is the amount of time it would take to sell off existing homes for sale if no new homes came onto the market.
